Mission Statement

Northwest Consumers Federal Credit Union is committed to partnering with you and your family to better your life through personal and professional financial services.

Our History

Northern Division Consumers Power Employees Federal Credit Union was chartered on September 26, 1952. The field of membership at that time was employees of Consumers Power Company, northern division, working in Grand Traverse, Antrim, Cheboygan, Wexford, Manistee and Charlevoix counties, employees of the credit union, immediate family members and organizations of such persons.

In the beginning the credit union originally operated from private residences until moving to a location at 836 Hastings Street, Traverse City, Michigan. In March, 1989 the credit union applied for a name change to Northwest Consumers Federal Credit Union. At the same time the credit union sold the building at 836 Hastings Street and moved into the newly constructed credit union office, it’s present location, 2948 Garfield Road North, Traverse City, Michigan on April 1, 1990.

In June, 1997 the Board of Directors applied for a community charter, which was granted, allowing any person who lives, works, worships or attends school in Grand Traverse County to be eligible for membership in the credit union.

Presently the credit union serves 2,685 members with assets over 30 million dollars.  Tina M Steed was hired on and is currently serving as Chief Executive Officer as of June 2020. The credit union is a full service financial institution providing fast, friendly and efficient service to its membership. As we continue on the path to the future, Northwest Consumers Federal Credit Union is dedicated to meeting the financial needs of its members.
